12/24/19 Lake Hood Update

December 24, 2019

For More Information:

Merry Christmas, Cadets (and Parents & Senior Members)!!

Flight Academies in Alaska: All cadets should have received an email from Col Porter last night with details about the March 6-15, 2020, Powered Flight Academy and the May 22-31, 2020, Glider Flight Academy.  Both of these Academies will be in Alaska near Fairbanks.  Capt Padgett will be instructing at both of them.  See the email from Col Porter and the attached memo for requirements and other details.  Please let me know if you would like any help applying for a CadetINVEST Scholarship (12/31/19 deadline) or applying for either of the flight academies.

Encampment Update: Remember to keep June 13-21, 2020, open for encampment.  Registration is planned to open January 15, so keep your eyes open for that.  I will help all of you register as much as possible.  The Encampment planners will also soon publish details about encampment to help cadets and prepare. It will be a *fantastic* encampment, with several of our favorite encampment graduates staffing it (NOTE: staff/cadre dates are June 10-21!!) and working as Senior Members.  Chinooks.  Oops. Not promising anything, but the planners think rides on Chinooks would be pretty cool! Encampment graduates, remember to apply soon for staff/cadre positions!! Do any of you have an LOI/Resume/Questionnaire your colleagues can use to make the process easier?  Let me know if you want me to help you with your cadre application.

Encampment graduates may also apply as students in the Advanced Training Flight. The ATF will help broaden your leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.  You will receive hands-on training in the classroom then take those skills to the field in complex team challenges. Graduates will return to their squadrons ready to take on greater leadership roles and shape the next generation of Alaska Wing cadets.

Speaking of Encampments, Happy Travels to C/TSgt Compton who will be is the Advanced Training Squadron at the Oregon Encampment starting a couple days after Christmas.  Can't wait to hear about it at our next meeting!!

Www.lakehood.cap.govRemember to look on our squadron website for information.  We post these "Lake Hood Update" emails under the News tab.  We try to keep meeting information updated under the Events tab (then click "View All Upcoming Events"). Useful documents and links are provided under the "Resources" tab.  Let us know what other information would be helpful.

Fundraisers: Remember to sponsor Wreaths Across American and get 2-for-1 until 1/15/20.  Next year's ceremony will be Saturday, 12/19/20 at Fort Rich Cemetery.  And remember to save your clothing and soft goods donations for our clothing drive/fundraiser on Saturday, 1/25/20.

Online Testing: Many of you have recently passed all your requirements to promote and are just waiting for your eligibility date to arrive.  Good job!  Here are the cadets who are all caught up on their online tests--Good work!: Brewer T, Compton, Knoedler, LeBlanc, Mellerstig, Padgett, Padgett, Patterson & Waitman. Knoedler, Mellerstig & Waitman just need drill tests.

Whenever you need a drill test, to make it easier for us to administer drill tests, feel free to print the appropriate score sheet form this document & bring it to each meeting: https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/CAPT_782_Drill_Test_FINAL_746403DBE_7CFF4355467D9.pdf

For the rest of you, now that you have had a few days to recover from the end of the semester, you might find yourself with time & brainpower to pass a few online tests!! Have you noticed how several cadets promote every 8 weeks like clockwork? Want to know one of their secrets? They take their online tests almost immediately after promoting to prepare for the next promotion!

Here are available tests some of you can take (and eligibility date for next promotion when you meet *all* requirements).  You can always find this information for yourself on eservices under "Cadet Programs" then "Cadet Promotions Track Report."
