(Updated 7/4/2021 klp)

To AKWG Squadron CCs, CDCs, Assistant CDCs, and other interested parties:

Welcome to the AKWG website page where we can keep track of the wide range of upcoming cadet activities and other related opportunities.

As always, please email me with suggestions on how to make this information more useful for you.  And feel free to forward this information to other Senior Members, cadets, and parents. HOWEVER, please instruct your folks to contact you first with comments and questions rather than contacting me directly. CDCs, feel free to contact me (karen.padgett@akwg.cap.gov, cell/text 907-350-8533) directly.

Wing Conference October 1-3, 2021 on JBER near Anchorage.  Keep your eyes open for announceme

Encampment: We successfully conducted the AKWG 2021 Summer Encampment June 13-19, 2021! Until 3 weeks prior, we weren't sure it was going to happen.  Here is 3 min of Pass in Review from the graduation ceremony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huJMvnLMlZk  Keep your eyes open for announcements of winter encampments in other states, and the AKWG 2022 Summer Encampment!

NCSAs: The Alaska NCSAs (Powered Flight Academy & Glider Flight Academy) we also successfully conducted.  Congratulations to everyone who soloed, pre-soloed, and got to log some hours!

TLC: All Squadron Commanders and CDCs should have TLC training, and a minimum of 2 SMs per squadron are required to have TLC to be in compliance.  3 SMs with TLC gets your unit a QCUA "point"! Senior Members need TLC for their Cadet Programs Technician rating.   Virtual TLC opportunity Saturday, 7/17/21 http://caphclib.us – Registration open as of 7/4/21

CAC: The next Cadet Advisory Council meeting is planned for 7pm on Friday, July 30, 2021 on Google Meet code aak-zpnn-ajn.  All CAC reps should be on at least one committee.  Topics CAC is tackling include recruiting/retention, flight training, ES training, wing conference topics, and promotions. Cadet POC is C/Lt Mitchell Anderson (596976@akwg.cap.gov).  SM Kimberly Rice is the Senior Advisor. Applications will soon be open for the FY 2022 CAC team!

Guide to eServices for CDCs:(aka DCCs): a Summary of eServices items that pertain to Cadet Programs: www.bit.ly/CDCeServices

QCUA: 2021 Quality Cadet Unit Award (QCUA) info: The eServices QCUA reports are now updated to reflect this year’s criteria for 8/31/21 deadline. Commanders of 009, 017, 022: please consider registering now for AEX award so your squadron at least has a chance of achieving the award this year. (DCCs can’t register for AEX)

National Conference: Registration is now open for the August 12-14, 2021 CAP National Virtual Conference.  Many great presentations and other activities are planned,  some by AKWG members. Register here: https://civilairpatrol2021.pathable.co/register-here

2020 NHQ Cadet Survey: The results of this national survey of cadets, leaders of cadets, and cadets' parents are summarized in this webinar recording: https://vimeo.com/568540393/8fb00c06b9

Cadet Programs Specialty Track for SMs:  I am glad to connect you with mentors for your Technician, Senior, or Master rating. Senior Members need ratings to promote!

Virtual Training Opportunities for SMs & Cadets: These Facebook pages contain a WEALTH of virtual training opportunities for cadets *and* SMs:

Quality Cadet Unit Award:  See your QCUA details in Cadet Promotions reports or here (https://capnhq.gov/CAP.CadetTraining.Web/Modules/QCUADetails.aspx).  See your QCUA "points" under Member Reports

     (a) Cadet Achievement:  40% of cadets on your roster have attained the Wright Brothers Award

     (b) Adult Leadership: Unit has at least 3 Training Leaders of Cadets graduates on its roster.  Chaplain corps will also offer virtual TLC Basic Saturdays July 17, and Oct 16, 2021 (http://caphclib.us – Registration open NOW for 7/17/21 class!!)

     (c) NEW: Onboarding:  70% of all new cadets from 31 August 2020 earned Achievement 1 (Curry) in 8 weeks (AKWG is usually really good at this!!)

     (d) Aerospace: Unit earned the Aerospace Excellence Award (AEX) during the previous year or unit sent in an AAR after ordering a STEM Kit. AKWG goal is for *all* units to do *both*--very easy to do virtually!!

     (e) Enrollment: Unit has at least 20 cadets listed on its roster.  That's it for this category!! It's not a minimum requirement. It's just one of the 7 criteria your squadron *may* meet.

     (f) Outside Activities: Unit hosts a Red Ribbon Leadership Academy (or participates in a listed STEM competition--good job Gateway!!).  Please contact me about how to easily conduct an RRLA!

     (g) Emergency Services: 60% of cadets on your roster have passed the online, open-book GES-116 test.  If they don’t pass the first time, they can retake it immediately.  This is a pretty easy point to earn and means cadets can then get credit for Ground Team skills.  Let me know if you need help.  Senior cadets are standing by to help your cadets *and* Senior Members get this knocked out!!

Again, units that meet just 5 of the 7 above criteria will receive the QCUA award. 5 of the above criteria lend themselves well to virtual achievement!! Seven units currently meet 4 of the 7 criteria!!

"Cadet Life" video:  Finally, for your viewing pleasure, a 2-min “Cadet Life” video created by C/Maj Annika Ziesmer, suitable for use in the Wingman Course, Red Ribbon Leadership Academy, recruiting, and general motivation.  This video has been approved by Maj Bryan Emerson, AKWG PAO and includes mainly Alaska Wing cadets over the last 2 years.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVTHFOYVFkc&t=10s

To all of you, I appreciate the feedback you have given me, and it’s always good to connect.  Please let all of us know of other opportunities and updates you hear of.

Stay safe and stay connected!

V/r,
